TechEquity Collaborative Celebrates Pay Equity Bill Signing; Calls for Renewed Push Towards Pay Transparency Going Forward
The Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act (SB 1162) will combat existing gender and racial wage gaps in California
SACRAMENTO, CA – Following Governor Newsom’s signing of the Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act (SB 1162), a landmark piece of legislation – sponsored by TechEquity Collaborative – to expand the rights of contract workers including increased visibility on compensation, Samantha Gordon, Chief Programs Officer at TechEquity Collaborative, released the following statement:
“The signing of the Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act (SB 1162) into law is an important step in equalizing the playing field for the 1.9 million contractors, temps, vendors, and contingent workers that make up a significant portion of the workforce in California.
We thank Senator Monique Limón for introducing the bill and fiercely fighting alongside TechEquity Collaborative and other community stakeholders, as well as workers’ rights advocates who took a stand against racial and economic inequity.
Today’s signing is a critical step forward in the growing movement to protect pay transparency for workers everywhere. California now joins the list of states implementing regulatory guardrails to protect women, nonbinary people, and people of color — overwhelmingly represented among contract workers — from exploitation.
